Oh and I'd like to point out that Selin was a great mafia partner... apart from when he denounced me *grumbles* Probably could have won it if you hadn't pulled your stunt there at the end.

Great game aimless, brilliant modding and rule changes. PM me for the next one :D (and if I get my old role but can recruit normal power roles as well, I'll be over the moon ;) )

Some additional philosophy, and some problems I noticed regarding game play :

First off, there seemed to be a lot of confusion regarding win conditions. That's my fault, as I can see how some of the PMs, specifically regarding the people given the Townie role, could have been confusing.

Despite the name townie, all townies (all blue roles, in particular) were given "survivor" win conditions. The reason for this was two-fold - first, given the voting rules, it was always possible for the town to break the game by mass voting everyone. I wanted to prevent this, hence I gave half of the town survivor win conditions. The second reason was to provide an additional faction to hopefully try to limit the power of what I thought was an overpowered town. This didn't work out terribly well.

The second problem I noticed was that the town did seem a bit overpowered. I initially thought up the roles for a game of 20-25, with more neutral roles in it. Since I was giving the mafia a potentially game breaking ability (to counter the town's game-breaking voting ability), I limited them to only two members to start with (the Priest and one follower), and further limited them to only be able to recruit the neutral roles. Unfortunately for the scum, he never successfully recruited, so the mafia never grew above 2.

The third problem seems to just be in the nature of the setup; apparently, neutral roles are a disincentive to participate in the game. I'm not sure how I could avoid having a neutral faction and still keep the voting rules the same, though.

Other than that (and the serial killer getting modkilled :( ) I thought the game ran well. I'd appreciate your critiques, though.

Oh, and one last point : I'm worried that I gave too much away in my responses to night actions. Specifically, I let both the doc and the victim know that something had happened on the nights in which the doc protected someone. I did it for flavor reasons, but generally mods don't give out that particular information, so I wonder if it was game breaking.

I dont quite understand the townie/devout townie distinction though. :?
The devout townies were the green roles (the people who had traditional "kill the mafia" win conditions). The regular townies were blue roles, and all of them had "survivor" win conditions despite the name of the role.

This was a mistake on my part - I should have made it more clear in the role PM's that the townies were in fact survivors - but I did it because I didn't want to give away to the rest of the world that all of the townies were survivors.

In a game where the best play for the town is to lynch everyone except the confirmed guy, bein' a survivor is a tough buck.

And my plan would have brought the town victory as well. IT's a shame that people got lynch happy towards the end.

I enjoyed the game.

With XenHu as the mayor I'm surprised we didn't set up anarchy already.

Yeah. That was always the case, though, so I seeded half the town with survivors in an attempt to try to prevent exactly that from happening. Unfortunately, all of them died early.

XenHu was mayor, but his role had a trap in it. To use his ability, he had to announce that he was the mayor. I'm unsurprised that he never used it.

thanks guys, I enjoyed it

aimless, the fact that
-we can't unvote and
-voting as many as wanted,
makes the game for mafia more difficult or almost impossible to win.

consider this for your future games.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. It was always possible for the game to be broken by a mass vote. That's why I gave half the town "survivor" win conditions (although apparently none of the townies noticed that), and gave the mafia recruiting ability. Even so, I think the town was still a little overpowered; it would have worked out better if there had been maybe 5 more neutral townies added to the mix, possibly a couple more with locked special roles.

Things went south for you when you failed to recruit twice, and then Exile got lynched. Part of that was bad luck - everyone going after autoload and AK on night 0, and most of the townies died early - and part of it was the imbalance.

We were all at the Party at Auto's but then he got out the gun then we left. I didn't know where I supposed to go, so this guy led me to this church. And then I became a theif mason. What a night. The party was great, even if I didn't get a result. :D

Also, Selin. Why did you kill me Night 2?

I think that's funny. I am not even that great a mafia player. I mean, I CAN play well if I am trying, but lately I been slacking.

Maybe I been sandbagging the last couple of games so that I'm not an instant target when the next high profile game comes along...

Same, but I usually start trying more in later times. (In fact my spamming has made me 1 warning away from a Modkill.)

Yep.

For some reason, the blue roles were the prime targets this game. Virtually all of them were dead or converted by day 2.
